For Brady Shaw, the match in Budapest was a special one. Last season, the forward was still wearing the Ferencváros shirt; this time, he returned to his former stomping ground with the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The fact that he scored two goals and provided an assist made the evening all the more extraordinary. “It’s always a bit strange when you come back for the first time,” said Shaw after the match. “I’ve got lots of good friends in the opposing team and, of course, plenty of fond memories of this arena. That’s why it was lovely to come back and see the people again with whom I spent so much time.”

Three crucial points
The Linz side got off to a good start, taking an early lead and even going 3–0 up. Budapest fought their way back, however, and levelled the score with three goals in the space of two minutes. “I was pleased with our start and the fact that we took the lead. What I wasn’t pleased with was that we let them back into the game,” Shaw analysed.

In a hard-fought encounter, the Black Wings ultimately came out on top. “It was a difficult game. It’s a long away trip, and the two teams’ playing styles are quite different,” explained Linz’s match-winner. In the end, however, what counts most for Shaw is the win: “Three points are three points – and at this stage of the season, they’re particularly important.”

Linz face Graz
With this victory, the Black Wings Linz have moved up to fourth place in the table. The next challenge awaits as early as tomorrow, Friday: Linz will host Graz at home. The Styrian side have won all of the last three head-to-head encounters. The match will be broadcast live on Sporteurope.
