Simon Kostner gives Ritten a perfect opening win in Master Round

Thanks to two goals and one assist from Simon Kostner, the Rittner Buam got off to a perfect start in the Master Round of the Alps Hockey League with a clear 4-1 home win over Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. S.G. Cortina Hafro caused a surprise when they won 3-2 after overtime on the road at the regular season winner HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. In the Qualification Rounds both top-seeded teams celebrated a home victory.

S.G. Cortina Hafro inflicted a second home defeat on regular season winners HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice to kick off the Master Round. After failing to score one goal in their two previous meetings with the Slovenians, the Italians won 3-2 on the road after overtime. Cortina had their two-goal lead taken away after 24 minutes and had to go into the extra session, where Gabriele Parini (64.) scored the game winner. Diego Cuglietta (1G|2A) shone with three points.

The second game of the top-5 was cleared by the Rittner Buam SkyAlps, which picked up a 4-1 win at home over the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, after they announced the contract extension with captain Tobias Brighenti before the game. The decision in favor of the "Buam" came in the first seven minutes of the final period with two goals by Simon Kostner (43., 48.) and a goal by Robert Öhler (45.). Ritten thus got its fourth win in a row, the league newcomer lost for the first time again after previously four wins en suite.

Zell am See turns two-goal deficit to open Qualification Round
EK Die Zeller Eisbären scored a comeback victory on the first gameday of Qualification Round A, finally defeating Steel Wings Linz 4-3. After Henrik Neubauer (7.) had given the home team the lead in front of a crowd of almost 1,500 spectator, the guests from Linz turned up the heat: Thanks to an efficient power play, they were ahead 3-1 after 35 minutes. Hubert Berger (39./PP1) then cut the deficit in the second period, before a strong final period with goals from Philip Putnik (46.) and Frederik Widen (58.) gave the top-seeded team an opening win after all.

In the second game of QR A, SHC Fassa Falcons put an end to its negative run, taking a 3-1 home win over HC Gherdeina valgardena.it after five straight losses. For the "Furie" it was already the fourth defeat in a row. Fassa was trailing until the middle of the game, then Edgar de Toni (33.) equalized. In the final period Massimo Pietroniro (47. and 59.) decided the game with a brace.

Top seeded teams wins in Qualification Round B too
Also in the second qualification group the top seeded team celebrated an opening victory, as the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel prevailed against HC Meran/o with 6-3. After two even periods with two goals per team, one each on powerplay, the "Adler" cruised past their opponents with four unanswered in the last. Luis Ludin recorded two goals and one assist.

The parallel game of this group was won by EC Bregenzerwald 2-1 after shootout, which brought back an road win after the 4-2 in Linz on October 12th and thus eight defeats in a row. Bernhard Fechting was responsible for the equalizer midway through the game, Julius Nyqvist scored the decisive penalty. ECB goalie Felix Beck also put in a strong performance, stopping 34 shots on goal.
