The “best-of-seven” semifinal series between KHL Sisak and HC Meran/o Pircher will come to a dramatic conclusion on Thursday. In the decisive clash for a place in the finals, the Croatian side has home-ice advantage – having won two of the three previous games played in Sisak. It is already the eighth time in Alps Hockey League history that a series goes the full seven games.

Meran forced the series to a decider with a 4-3 home win on Tuesday. The last three matchups have all been decided by just one goal, two of them in overtime. The series opened with a 4-2 Meran victory in Sisak, before the Croatians responded by taking their next two home games 10-3 and 4-3 in OT.

This marks the eighth Game 7 in AHL history. For Meran, their only previous Game 7 did not end happily – they fell 2-7 to Ritten in last year’s quarterfinals. For both Sisak and the South Tyrolean team, reaching the final would be a first in club history.
