Sisak wins clash in Kitzbühel | Ritten edge Zell am See

Five games were played in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday. In the top matchup, second-placed KHL Sisak defeated third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 3–1, giving the Croatian side an eight-point cushion over the Tyroleans. In a true defensive battle, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps celebrated a 1–0 shootout win over EK Die Zeller Eisbären. The HC Migross Asiago put on an offensive show in a 7–3 road victory against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, highlighted by a four-goal performance from Nicholas Porco. Meanwhile, HC Meran/o Pircher ended their seven-game losing streak with a 5–0 win at the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it beat EC Bregenzerwald 6–3.

Second-placed KHL Sisak earned a 3–1 road victory in the clash of the pursuers in Kitzbühel and now sit eight points clear of the Tyroleans, while trailing leaders Salzburg by just one point. Vito Idzan opened the scoring on the power play in the 18th minute. The 1–0 score held until the 41st minute, when Maj Crnkic equalised for Kitzbühel. Just five minutes later, defenceman Niko Cavlovic restored Sisak’s lead. The game remained tight until Nikolas Malenica sealed the result with an empty-netter 18 seconds from time. It marked Sisak’s second straight win, while Kitzbühel’s two-game winning streak came to an end.

Shootout win for Ritten
In a pure defensive matchup, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps edged titleholders EK Die Zeller Eisbären 1–0 in a shootout. Goaltenders Colin Furlong (RIT) and Alexander Schmidt (EKZ) shone with 34 saves each. In the shootout, Kevin Fink scored the decisive attempt for the South Tyroleans. It was Ritten’s first win in the second meeting of the season and their second consecutive victory overall. They climbed to sixth place, while fourth-placed Zell am See suffered back-to-back defeats after previously winning six in a row.

Nicholas Porco shines with four-goal night
Nicholas Porco turned in a brilliant performance for HC Migross Asiago in the 7–3 road win in Sterzing, scoring all of four goals. For the 24-year-old, they were goals 16 to 19 of the season, moving him level atop the league’s goal-scoring chart with Maxim Eliseev (RBJ). Porco scored twice within the opening eight minutes to make it 2–0 and later added both the 4–2 game-winner and the 7–2 marker. Asiago snapped the eighth-placed Broncos’ four-game winning streak, while sitting fourth themselves with just one win from their previous five outings.

Merano end losing streak with big win against Unterland
HC Meran/o Pircher ended their seven-game losing streak with a 5–0 road victory over the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, extending their lead over the bottom-placed side to ten points. After a goalless opening period, Tommaso Traversa put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute. Merano led 3–0 after two periods and added two late goals in the final four minutes. Reid Stefanson was the only player to score twice. Ahead of the game, Unterland interim coach Tuomo Harjula was confirmed as head coach for the remainder of the season, with Dietmar Werner serving as assistant.

Gherdeina defeat Bregenzerwald
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated a 6:3 home win over EC Bregenzerwald. At one point, the South Tyroleans were already up 4:1 before the visitors closed the gap to 3:4. Only a goal on a 5-on-3 power play by Adam Brady four and a half minutes from time finally sealed the win for Gherdeina. It was the center’s second goal of the night, and he also added two assists. For the 10th-placed team, it was the first victory after two straight losses, while seventh-placed Bregenzerwald suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games.
