The first South Tyrolean Derby of the season between fourth-placed HC Falkensteiner Pustertal and table-toppers HCB Südtirol Alperia promises maximum excitement. The “Wolves” have celebrated back-to-back wins, while the “Foxes” have strung together six consecutive league victories – but suffered a home defeat in the CHL against Ingolstadt on Wednesday. Since 2021, the two sides have met 16 times in the win2day ICE Hockey League, with Bolzano winning ten duels and Pustertal six. In the last four derbies, HCB claimed three victories, while Bruneck took the most recent clash. With only ten goals conceded so far, the leaders boast the best defense in the league, while HCP has allowed the second-fewest at 14. The Intercable Arena is completely sold out for this 199th encounter.

Following their loss in Bolzano, Olimpija Ljubljana recently slipped to second place in the standings. Their upcoming opponents from Upper Austria returned to winning ways last weekend, as the Steinbach Black Wings Linz edged defending champions Salzburg in overtime. The Slovenians have scored by far the most goals in the league (40), with Nicolai Meyer (15 points) and TJ Brennan (12) sitting atop the scoring charts. Last season, Linz won three of their four meetings with Olimpija.

EC Red Bull Salzburg currently sit third with 15 points but have suffered three consecutive defeats across competitions – most recently a 1-2 loss in the CHL at Odense. Their next assignment against the Vienna Capitals will be another tough test, as the Capitals have a winning record in head-to-head games since the start of the 2023–24 season, with five victories in nine outings. In the standings, Vienna are eighth after four wins and four losses.

The Moser Medical Graz99ers meet FTC-Telekom for the first time in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The fifth-placed Styrians enter as favorites but have only won one of their three home games this season. The visitors from Budapest, currently tenth, have alternated wins and losses over their last five games. Most recently, they fell to KAC in the final minute.

Saturday’s opener features EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV hosting HC TIWAG Innsbruck, who begin their away stretch. While the Carinthians are among the league’s top six, the Tyroleans sit second from bottom. Last weekend, however, the “Sharks” earned a home win over Graz. VSV have won the last five head-to-head encounters.

The Pioneers Vorarlberg start their weekend with a trip to Hydro Fehérvár AV19. Ninth-placed Fehérvár recently ended their losing streak, while Feldkirch find themselves bottom of the table with four points from eight games. Five of the last six meetings were decided by only one goal, with Fehérvár winning four of them.
