Domenic Monardo of HCB Südtirol Alperia got suspended by DOPS for one game, because of Spearing.

According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, the player Domenic Monardo (#40) of HCB Südtirol Alperia, in the game at Salzburg on December 28th, time 60:00, made contact with an opponent deemed as Spearing IIHF Rule 161. As per the EBEL Fundamental Rules V. 5,1 (b), video evidence was sent to PSC(IDOPS) for a final verdict. From the perspective of DOPS, it is clear that Monardo demonstrated a motion on the opposing player that is defined in the IIHF Rule Book as Spearing.
 
On December 28th in Salzburg, a situation occurred involving Bozen player #40 Domenic Monardo. As the game concluded, an opposing player pushed Monardo, which propelled him to the ice level.  With Domenic Monardo at ice level on his knees, he used his stick in a spearing manner. The incident was sent to the EBEL PSC and determined that supplementary discipline is required.  Considering Monardo looked at the opposing player immediately before the stick incident, proved conclusively that Domenic Monardo knew exactly where the opposing player was located.  He then used his stick in a spearing manner to make contact to the mid section of the opposing player.  The spearing action is not overly forceful, however the opposing player is unsuspecting of the stick action and certainly not required to be suspecting of a spearing motion.  It was taken into consideration the game had concluded, a time penalty being irrelevant and the spearing action being deemed recklessly endangering.
 
Effective immediately, Domenic Monardo  is suspended for 1 game.
