Suspension for Dominic Haberl

Dominic Haberl (#90) of Dornbirn Bulldogs was involved in an incident deemed by the on-ice officials as Boarding (IIHF Rule 119) in the west-derby against HC TWK Innsbruck "Die Haie" on December 28th 2018, time 37:06. The video evidence was sent to the EBEL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’. According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the EBEL PSC, player Dominic Haberl (#90) of Dornbirn Bulldogs,will receive supplementary discipline under rule 123 – checking from behind.

On 12-28-2018, an incident occurred involving Dominic Haberl (#90) of the Dornbirn Bulldogs, which is considered a check from behind. With a turnover occurring and the puck along the end boards, an opposing player plays the puck. With the opposing player being a left hand shot, stopping to his right and the puck bouncing off the end boards, the opposing player is forced to play the puck from a unnatural forehand position. The playing of the puck did not allow the opposing player to prepare for the impending check. The check by Dominic Haberl is not considered overly aggressive. In fact he glided from the top of the face-off area into the check.
The reason for supplementary discipline is due to Dominic Haberl having a clear sight line on the opposing players back #'s when he was located about the goal line. Dominic Haberl did not alter or work to minimize backside contact. Instead, he elevated slightly and gave additional force to the back area of the opposing player. The contact propelled the opposing player into the glass. Effective immediately, Dominic Haberl (#90) is suspended for 1 game.
