Fabian Scholz of EK Die Zeller Eisbären has been suspended by DOPS for one game, because of Checking to the Head or Neck. Besides, Brendan McNally of Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan is automatically suspended for one match after his second fighting major 2018/19.

According to the Arbitrator and after reviewing video evidence, player Brandon McNally #74 of Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan was engaged in a fight with an opponent deemed as Fighting IIHF Rule 141 in the game against HK SZ Olimpija on Satuday, 23rd 2019, time 60:00. Neither fight was it determined that the opposing player was the instigator. Brandon McNally was deemed a willing combatant, constituting his 2nd fighting major in the 2018/19 Alps Hockey League season on February 23rd 2019.
Brandon McNally is suspended automatically for the ensuing Alps Hockey League game, according to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga Casebook Disciplinary Measures | Supplementary Discipline (DOPS) | (2) which states: “If a player is assessed a fighting major for the 2nd time during the Alps Hockey League regular season, such player is assessed an automatic one (1) game suspension, in addition to any other penalties assessed.” Previous fighting major: AHL game #79 Hockey Milano Rossoblu vs. Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan on 13/10/18. Suspension Fabian Scholz
Fabian Scholz (#44) of EK Die Zeller Eisbären, in the game against HC Fassa Falcons on Saturday, February 23rd 2019 time approximately 16:02, made contact with an opponent deemed as a Check to the Head or Neck, IIHF Rule 124. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – 'Careless’. According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Fabian Scholz (#44) of EK Die Zeller Eisbären, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 124 – Checking to the Head or Neck.
On February 23rd, in Zell/See, a check to the head incident occurred, involving Fabian Scholz (#44) of EK Die Zeller Eisbären. As play developed out of the opposing team d'zone, a pass occurred that is considered a very high risk pass. Due to a high risk pass, the opposing player is forced to look behind and down at the puck, making him unaware of his surroundings. Due to a high risk pass, some of the oneness falls on the opposing player.
What the opposing player is not responsible for and the reason for supplementary discipline, is the fact the body contact delivered by Fabian Scholz was primarily to the head. The check was reviewed by the AHL PSC and determined conclusively of a category 1 suspension. The head contact was deemed avoidable. Fabian Scholz had no regard for the puck, took advantage of an unsuspecting player, slight elevation and into the check-separated and elevated his right arm. Although there appears to be no apparent injury, the potential of a serious injury is extremely high on these type of avoidable head contact checks.
Effective immediately, Fabian Scholz (#44) of EK Die Zeller Eisbären is suspended for 1 game.
