While six games were won by the away team on Friday, the home teams struck back on Sunday. The EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated their first home win of the season against the iClinic Bratislava Capitals. The Dornbirn Bulldogs won against reigning champion EC-KAC with 2-1-SO. League leader Hydro Fehérvár AV19 is still unbeaten this season. In addition, the Moser Medical Graz99ers, the HK SZ Olimpija and the HCB Südtirol Alperia were also victorious in front of their home crowd.
First home win for Salzburg
The EC Red Bull Salzburg got its first win in its third home game. Against the iClinic Bratislava Capitals, the Red Bulls prevailed with 5:2. In the fourth game it was the second win for the team from Salzburg. Bratislava conceded the second defeat in the fifth game of the season. In the 15th minute of the game Peter Schneider scored the 1:0 for the home side. It was the second goal of the season for the newcomer. Ty Loney added another in the first period in the power play (17./PP1). Salzburg had the game under control for long stretches and also scored when shorthanded. US-American Vincent LoVerde scored for the Red Bulls for the first time in the 28th minute. Then Jamie Arniel was able to reduce the score to 1:3 from the visitors' point of view (30.), before Ali Wukovits increased the lead to 4:1 in the power play (34./PP1). The newcomer of the spusu Vienna Capitals also scored the goal for the 5:2 final score (57./SH1). These were the first goals in the jersey of RBS for the 25-year-old Viennese. Bratislava's second goal was scored by Samuel Jardine in the power play (51st).
Klagenfurt loses in Dornbirn
Reigning champion EC-KAC lost also in the second game this weekend. After a 0:6 defeat on Friday at the HC Orli Znojmo, the Carinthians lost on Sunday against the Dornbirn Bulldogs with 1:2 after a shootout. It was the third win of the "Bulldogs" over the Klagenfurt team in the last four games. On the side of Dornbirn, ex-KAC goalkeeper David Madlener started between the posts. He was able to save three penalties. In regular playing time, the hosts took the lead in the 19th minute of play. Dane Nikita Jevpalovs scored his first goal of the season. The equalizer for Klagenfurt was scored by Nick Petersen in the 25th minute of the game. It was the fourth goal of the season for last season's playoffs MVP. In the shootout, Colton Beck scored twice for the Bulldogs. Only Rok Ticar scored for Klagenfurt. In the standings, both teams are tied with seven points. The EC-KAC is ranked fifth in the standings, just ahead of the Dornbirn Bulldogs.
Fehérvár remains unbeaten
For the second time this season Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and the EC GRAND Immo VSV faced each other. After a clear 5:1 victory at the season opener, the Hungarians kept the upper hand also on Sunday with 3:2. It was the fourth win in the fourth game of the season for Fehérvár, who stays at the top of the table without losing any points. The home side were 2:0 up after just over four minutes of play. Timothy Campbell (3.) and Colin Jacobs (5.) provided the quick lead. The US-American Jacobs also scored in the 23rd minute to make it 3:1. After that, both teams neutralized each other for a long time before Villach scored the equalizer in the 52nd minute when they were shorthanded. However, the guests were unable to equalize. In the fourth game of the season it was the third defeat for the "Eagles".
Graz Ljubljana and Bolzano win at home as well
The Moser Medical Graz99ers, the HK SZ Olimpija and the HCB Südtirol Alperia could also celebrate a home victory each. For the 99ers it was the first win of the season against league newcomer HC Pustertal. In the 5:2 victory, the Styrians benefited from a perfect start. In the second minute of the game, Lukas Kainz scored shorthanded to take an early 1:0 lead. Just before the end of the first period, Ken Ograjensek increased the lead to 2:0 (18.). Four goals followed in the middle period. In the 28th minute, Zachary Budish scored to get one back in the power play. After that, the 99ers pulled ahead to 4:1 with goals from Michael Boivin (30.) and Joey Martin (36.). Erik Kirchschläger ensured the final decision shortly before the end of the game in the power play (59./EN/PP1).
Ljubljana kept the upper hand against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz with 6:3. In the standings, the league newcomer is in excellent second place with three wins from four games. This weekend it was the second win of the season for the Slovenians. On Friday, they surprisingly kept the upper hand at Bolzano with 6:2. Against Linz, the game was tied after the first period (1:1). In the second period, the Slovenians pulled away with 4:2. In the final period, the "Dragons" made everything clear with two more goals in the first ten minutes. Man of the match was Frenchman Guillaume Leclerc with a hat trick. In total, the 25-years-old center already has scored five goals. On the Black Wings' side, Brian Lebler scored two of the three goals.
The perfect day of the home teams was complted by the HCB Südtirol Alperia. Last year's finalist defeated league returnee HC Orli Znojmo with 3:1. Already after 215 seconds the South Tyroleans were 2:0 in front. Both Anton Bernard and Brett Findlay scored in the power play. After a scoreless middle period, the guests were able to reduce the score to 1:2 in the 46th minute of play through Vojtech Nemec. Just over a minute later, however, Bolzano restored their two-goal lead in the form of Brett Findlay. It was the first brace of the season for the Canadian. Bolzano moved up to the third place in the standings. Znojmo is in seventh place.
