The HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana is once again champion of the Alps Hockey League. The Slovenians won in the finals against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey with 3:0 victories. After the "Dragons" won the first two games after overtime, they managed a 4:1 home victory in game three. Ljubljana is thus the first team to defend its title in the AHL. For Asiago it was the second defeat in their third final appearance. The Italians won their only AHL title so far in the season 2017/18. Ljubljana will not succeed in winning a third league title in a row, as the Slovenians will be part of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League from next season on.

Just like in game one of the "best-of-5" final series, HK SZ Ljubljana started better into the game this evening. The Slovenians found the better scoring chances throughout the first period. They also scored the only goal of the first period in the eleventh minute of the game. Marc Olivier-Vallerand took advantage of a mistake of Asiago and scored with a well-placed shot into the cross corner to make it 1:0 for HKO.

In the second period, the hosts pressed for the 2:0 right from the start, which they finally scored in the 33rd minute of the game. Ljubljana started a counterattack. Juuso Pulli failed to score against the enormously strong Gianluca Vallini, but Ziga Pance was able to score on the follow-up shot. No further goals were scored in the second period.

The final decision was made by Ziga Pesut in the 45th minute. In the power play, the 28-years-old scored after Anze Ropret's ssist to make it 3:0. Asiago did not give up and could reduce the score to 1:3 in the 51st minute with a goal by Daniel Mantenuto. Shortly after, the Italians had a great chance to reduce the score to 2:3, but the bar prevented them from scoring. After that, the guests did not have another big chance. The final decision was made by Ziga Pance with an empty net goal in the 57th minute. In the third game of the finals, Ljubljana managed to win after 60 minutes of play for the first time. It was their second title in a row in the Alps Hockey League. Ljubljana will not succeed in winning a third league title in a row, as the Slovenians will be part of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League from next season on.
