In bet-at-home ICE Hockey League’s second last round 2020 the top-4 teams took wins each, as the HCB Südtirol Alperia and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 both pinned it down in the final frame and the EC-KAC snatched up its highest derby win since almost eight years, while the spusu Vienna Capitals ended up their losing streak. Further, 16-year-old Julian Lutz posted a brace in his fifth game for EC Red Bull Salzburg.
Leader Bolzano turns is around
HCB Südtirol Alperia won the Tiroler Derby against HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie with 3:2 and kept the lead in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. The "foxes" celebrated their 25th derby win and claimed their sixth success in a row against the "sharks". However, the ICE leader had to fight hard, let slip away a one-goal lead. Simon Pitschieler (40.) equalized with his first league goal in the middle period. In the final frame Bolzano got more and more control over the game and Brett Findlay (50.), who scored for the eleventh consecutive game, scored the game-winner.
Fehérvár makes it nine in a row
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 celebrated its ninth win in a row. The Hungarians secured a 2-0 win at Steinbach Black Wings 1992, not conceding a goal for the third time in the last five games. It was the second shutout of the season for goalie Jaroslav Janus, who saved 27 shots on goal. For the Hungarians it was already the fifth win over Linz in a row. The decision was made by two quick goals at the beginning of the final period: Istvan Bartalis (41.) and Toni Kahkonen (43.) scored within 122 seconds.
Vienna ends up losing streak
The spusu Vienna Capitals have put an end to their negative run. The third-placed team in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League celebrated another success after five defeats in a row thanks to a 3-2 home win over the iClinic Bratislava Capitals, who brought in newcomer Lukas Durkech. Marco Richter (2.), who scored for the third time in a row, gave the two-time champions the early lead, which Alex Wall (24.) somewhat happily doubled. Bratislava can score on its lone powerplay occasion to tie the game (40.), before Benjamin Nissner (51.) netted the game-winner.
KAC takes highest derby win since 2013
The EC-KAC celebrated its highest derby win in almost eight years (7:1 on January 29th, 2013), defeating EC GRAND Immo VSV 4-0 at Villach Stadthalle. It was the sixth shutout victory of the "Rotjacken" at the "eagles" since the league was founded in the summer of 2000. For Sebastian Dahm in goal for the Klagenfurt team, it was the fourth game in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League season without conceding a goal. Rok Ticar (18.) gave the visitors the lead in the first period before Thomas Hundertpfund (26.) doubled up on his comeback shorthanded. In the 29th minute, Matt Fraser increased the lead to 3:0 with his first goal for Klagenfurt on the powerplay, Blaz Gregorz (46th) scored the fourth goal for the KAC.
Lutz and Schofield each scored a brace
EC Red Bull Salzburg returned to winning ways after three defeats in a row. With the 4:1 home win, the six-time champion ended the four-game winning streak of the Dornbirn Bulldogs. Salzburg, which trailed early, thus won the 36th of 50 duels with the Vorarlberg side. Two players turned the game around for the "Bullen" with a brace each: Julian Lutz, just 16 years old, also scored twice in only his fifth game in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League, as did veteran Rick Schofield.
