Olimpija Ljubljana successfully defended their lead in the standings on Friday, defeating reigning champions Salzburg 4-3 after overtime. League top scorer T.J. Brennan netted the game-winner. While Head Coach Ben Cooper’s side has been the best home record so far, they have collected only five points from four road games. On Sunday, the leaders travel to Feldkirch to face the Pioneers, who currently sit in 12th place and suffered a 2-4 home defeat against Pustertal on Friday. Ljubljana has won four of the last five head-to-head meetings, including a clear 6-1 victory in the first matchup of the season.

HC Falkensteiner Pustertal climbed to second place with their win in Feldkirch and now prepare for a home encounter with the Steinbach Black Wings Linz. The Upper Austrians sit at the bottom of the table with just five points from nine games and are still seeking their first point away from home. However, Linz can take confidence from their recent record – they have beaten Pustertal four times in a row.

Following a convincing win in Villach, the Moser Medical Graz99ers rose to third in the standings. Their next opponent, EC-KAC, earned a fourth consecutive 3-2 victory on Friday, this time against the Vienna Capitals. The Carinthians remain in seventh place but already rank fourth in points-per-game average. Graz took the first meeting of the season in Klagenfurt’s Heidi Horten Arena, but their home record still leaves room for improvement: one regulation win compared to three defeats. Klagenfurt, on the other hand, has won three of its four away games so far.

EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV suffered their third home loss in five games on Friday (1-6 vs. Graz). The fourth-placed Villach side now seeks redemption against FTC-Telekom. The Carinthians started the season with a 4-2 win in Budapest, but the Hungarians have vastly improved lately, winning three in a row to climb to eighth place. Former league MVP Brady Shaw leads FTC with five goals and six assists.

EC Red Bull Salzburg are in the middle of a busy schedule – Sunday’s matchup against HC TIWAG Innsbruck will be their eighth game in 17 days. After their overtime loss in Ljubljana, Salzburg dropped to sixth but remain only four points behind the top. Innsbruck has collected points in three of its last four games. For HCI head coach Ryan Kinasewich, the game holds special significance: the Canadian, once one of the league’s top forwards, played briefly for Salzburg in the 2012/13 season and now faces the Red Bulls for the first time as a coach.
