Top trio of the Alps Hockey League with defeats

The top three of the league table all conceded defeats on Saturday. League leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana lost to the Red Bull Hockey Juniors with 3:7. The Rittner Buam conceded a 2:4 defeat at S.G. Cortina Hafro. Also with 2:4 the HC Pustertal Wölfe lost against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. The best three Austrian teams of the table, the EHC Lustenau, the EK Die Zeller Eisbären and the VEU Feldkirch, however all celebrated victories. The EC ‚Die Adler‘ Stadtwerke Kitzbühel celebrated a 5:4 SO victory at HC Gherdeina valgardena.it. HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice was without a chance at the SHC Fassa Falcons. On Sunday one further game follows this week. The EHC Lustenau will host Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey at 17:30.

Ljubljana with a clear defeat at Red Bull Hockey Juniors
The matchday on Saturday started with a big surprise. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors beat leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana with 7:3. The league leader from Ljubljana conceded the first defeat after last five wins in a row. From the beginning, the Bulls showed a strong game and finished the first period with a 2:0 lead. In the second period they scored another goal, also Ljubljana scored once. The decision was made at the beginning of the final period. Within 144 seconds Salzburg scored three more goals. In the table HKO remains at the top, RBJ improves to the 12th place.

Also pursuers Pustertal and Ritten with defeats
In addition to league leader Ljubljana, second-placed Rittner Buam and third-placed HC Pustertal Wölfe lost. The Wolves lost to the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan at home with 2:4. For the Broncos it was the second win in a row after five defeats in series. For Pustertal it was the second defeat this week. Already on Wednesday they lost to leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljuljana. In the table they thus remain with five points behind the Slovenes in third place. Wipptal is eleventh. The first period of the game went as expected: the hosts were the better team and went with a 1:0 lead in the cabin. PUS had more goal opportunities in the secend period as well but the visitors scored the goals. In the third period Pustertal was able to equalize the game again, but in a power play the Broncos scored the game-winning goal. Per Empty Net they increased to the 4:2 final score.

Table second Rittner Buam lost at S.G. Cortina Hafro with 2:4 as well. It was already Cortina's third victory over Ritten in series. After three defeats in series Cortina could win again, for the Buam it was the first defeat after five consecutive wins. Over the entire game, the hosts were the offensively better team. Period one ended with 2:1, in the second period they could increase to 4:1. Ritten remains in second place because of the defeat of the HC Pustertal Wölfe, the SGC is seventh, one point behind the important sixth place.

Austrian top trio celebrate victories
The three best Austrian teams in the table all celebrated victories. The EHC Lustenau won against league newcomer Steel Wings Linz with 7:2 and is already celebrating the seventh victory in a row. In the table, they are fourth with six points behind leader Ljubljana.

The EK Die Zeller Eisbären won against a league newcomer as well. The Salzburger had lots of problems against the Vienna Capitals Silver. The decisive goal (5:4) for the EKZ fell five minutes and 27 seconds before the end of the game. The Polar Bears climb through the victory to the the fifth place in the table. The Capitals Silver slip back to the 16th place.

Also the VEU Feldkirch celebrated a victory in front of their home crowd. Against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey the Vorarlberger won with 4:3. The preliminary decision already fell in the first period in which the home team scored three goals. In the second period, however, the guests were able to score three goals as well and thus made the game open again. Despite a clear overweight on scoring chances in the third period (15:4 shots on goal for Asiago), the Italians were unable to score the equaliser. With 33 points the VEU takes the ninth place in the table. With one more point ASH is in sixth place.

Kitzbühel with a narrow away win at Val Gardena
With the EC ‚Die Adler‘ Stadtwerke Kitzbühel another Austrian team could win. The Tyroleans won at the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it with 5:4 SO. After a balanced starting third (1:1), the KEC won the second period with 2:0. The hosts from Val Gardena, however, were able to turn the game in the third period within three minutes. With a powerplay goal Kitzbühel equalised the game and it went into overtime in which no decision fell. In the shootout Johan Schreiber scored the decisive penalty. GHE is eighth in the table, the KEC is in 15th place.

A clear 5:2 home win the SHC Fassa Falcons could celebrate over HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. After two periods the home side leaded with 3:1. In the final period Jesenice tried everything to equalise the game, but FAS was too stable in the defensive and too cold-blooded in the offense this evening. Fassa advances to the tenth place in the table. Jesenice is ranked 13th.
