Transfer Update: Ortenszky joins Ferencváros, Sproul joins Villach, McClure stays in Bolzano

Ferencvárosi TC have strengthened their blue line for the upcoming season by signing Hungarian national team defenseman Tamás Ortenszky. The 24-year-old returns to his home country after spending several years in Switzerland and is set to make his debut in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The Austrian club EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV added NHL-experienced Canadian defenseman Ryan Sproul to its roster. The 33-year-old joins from the Slovakian team HK Poprad and will also be making his first appearance in the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Ortenzsky signs in Budapest

Ortenszky spent most of his career in the Swiss hockey system, gaining experience with clubs including Biel, Visp, Martigny and Winterthur. He has also been a regular member of the Hungarian national team and represented his country at the 2025 and 2026 IIHF World Championships.

Sproul Signs with Villach

33-year-old Canadian defenseman Ryan Sproul has signed with EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, bringing a wealth of international experience to Villach. Throughout his career, the offensively gifted blueliner has competed in some of the world's top leagues, including the National Hockey League (NHL), the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), and the American Hockey League (AHL).

In addition, Sproul represented the Chinese national team at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Most recently, the Canadian played for HK Poprad in Slovakia, where he showcased his offensive abilities from the back end. In 65 games, the defenseman recorded 48 points.

McClure extends in Bolzano

Meanwhile, HCB Südtirol Alperia have secured the services of one of the league’s most dangerous forwards, as leading goal scorer Brad McClure has signed on for the 2026/27 season.

The Canadian topped the league’s goal-scoring chart last season with 31 goals in 43 games, setting a new club record for most goals in an ICEHL regular season. Since arriving in Bolzano in 2022, McClure has appeared in 240 competitive games for the Foxes, recording 158 points.
