HC TIWAG Innsbruck and HC Pustertal, who face each other in the Tyrolean derby, also have their sights set on this spot. Steinbach Black Wings Linz will also be playing for a direct playoff spot on Sunday. Meanwhile, EC Red Bull Salzburg will be aiming to secure their place, or at least take a big step closer, with a win at Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey.

win2day ICE Hockey League | 03.02.2024
Sun, 04.02.2024, 17:30: spusu Vienna Capitals - Steinbach Black Wings Linz
Referees: HRONSKY, SIEGEL, Konc, Snoj | >> live.ice.hockey <<

The spusu Vienna Capitals are almost forced to score against Steinbach Black Wings Linz on Sunday if they want to keep their hopes of making the pre-playoffs alive after this weekend. The Caps have always qualified for the postseason in the last 19 seasons, giving them the longest current streak of any team.(Full details on this record streak can be found here.) However, this streak is now more than just in jeopardy: The deficit to the tenth-place Pioneers is already 12 points - and that's with only 15 points left to play for. Things are looking much better for the Upper Austrians. Especially after the win against HCB Südtirol Alperia, the team from Linz is on course for a top-six finish. In particular, win2day top performer Sean Collins impressed with a brace. However, they are just one point ahead of seventh-placed Innsbruck. The season record so far in this duel also speaks for the Black Wings: With nine points so far, they not only have the chance of a regular-season sweep against the spusu Vienna Capitals, but could even achieve it with maximum points.

Sun, 04.02.2024, 17:30: EC-KAC - ED iDM Wärmepumpen VSV
Referees: TRILAR, ZRNIC, Hribar, Zgonc | >> LIVE on PULS 24 and JOYN <<

On the last matchday before the International Break, the win2day ICE Hockey League once again offers a real highlight: the 355th Carinthian derby, which will be broadcast LIVE on PULS 24 and the streaming platform JOYN. The EC-KAC is still the absolute measure of all things in the win2day ICE Hockey League. The league leaders have not only already booked their place in the play-offs, but also secured home ice in the quarter-finals with their resounding victory at HC Pustertal on Friday. The standout performer was Nick Petersen, who scored three (or more) goals in a game for the seventh time in his league career. The "KAC" are also on course to play the best regular season of any team in the win2day ICE Hockey League in terms of goal difference. The current record holder is HCB Südtirol Alperia, who scored an average of 1.46 goals more than they conceded last season. The team from Klagenfurt currently has an average goal difference of +1.53. Things are not going quite as well for EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV as they are for their local rivals, as the "Adler" are in the middle of the battle for the top 6. EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV took an important step in this direction on Friday with their 3:2 overtime win over HK SZ Olimpija. The Villach team is currently tied on points with the seventh-placed Innsbruck Sharks in sixth place. The derby record speaks - this season as well as overall - in favor of the EC-KAC. Two of the three Carinthian duels went to the Klagenfurt team - the last two.

Record referee Viktor Trilar will officiate his 700th and last match in the multinational league on Sunday. The Slovenian will end his career as an active referee with the Carinthian derby.

Viktor Trilar talks about his career in the podcast "nICE to hear you":

Sun, 04.02.2024, 17:30: Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey - EC Red Bull Salzburg
Referees: GROZNIK, PIRAGIC, Mantovani, Miklic |>> live.ice.hockey <<

While Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey is facing the end of the season, EC Red Bull Salzburg is just about to qualify for the playoffs. However, in order to secure this already on Sunday, they are dependent on two further results in addition to their own result, so that nothing more can happen mathematically. The Salzburg side currently look somewhat cemented in third place in the table. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 - who are currently not dropping any points - are five points ahead of Salzburg. They even have a nine-point cushion over fifth-placed Bolzano, who have played one game less. Salzburg recently celebrated a 9:1 victory over the Moser Medical Graz99ers. Asiago, on the other hand, have only a theoretical chance of making the pre-playoffs since their 6-2 defeat to BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg, but Salzburg could put paid to that with a points haul on Sunday. The northern Italians have so far failed to win any of their three season duels with Salzburg. The Red Bulls therefore have the chance of a regular-season sweep against Asiago on Sunday.

Sun, 04.02.2024, 17:30: HC TIWAG Innsbruck - HC Pustertal
Referees: HUBER, SMETANA, Martin, Moidl >> live.ice.hockey <<

HC TIWAG Innsbruck and HC Pustertal are set for a heated duel in the battle for the top six on Sunday. While the Innsbruck team currently has the same number of points as sixth-placed Villach, HC Pustertal is three points behind. The encounter against the Sharks could therefore be one of the last chances for the South Tyroleans to get back into the race. Pustertal recently suffered two heavy defeats: After the 3:6 defeat against Asiago, the Wolves lost 1:7 against the KAC on Friday. Innsbruck also won only one of their last four games and thus missed the chance to defend their top 6 position for the time being. The South Tyroleans have won two of their three duels with the Sharks so far this season.

Sun, 04.02.2024, 18:00: HCB Südtirol Alperia - BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg
Referees: NIKOLIC M., SCHAUER, Rigoni, Sparer >> live.ice.hockey <<

HCB Südtirol Alperia had barely managed to pull away in the race for the top six when the next setback followed. This came on Friday in the form of a bitter 3:4 defeat against Steinbach Black Wings Linz - one of their fiercest rivals. The starting position for the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg appears to be somewhat more relaxed - albeit further down the table. After their success against Asiago on Friday and the simultaneous defeat of Vienna, the Vorarlberg team has a comfortable 12-point lead in the race for the pre-playoffs. The Pioneers have now not conceded a point in three games and are thus stretching their lead: The gap to HK SZ Olimpija is now only five points. In the three head-to-head meetings between Bolzano and the Pioneers this season, the home team has always come out on top.
