Elmeri Hällfors (#37) of Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, time 39:49, made contact with an opponent deemed as Charging IIHF Rule 42. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

Wednesday night, November 1st, in Neumarkt, Unterland Forward #37 Elmeri Hällfors was involved in an incident, deemed as charging on Lustenau Forward #75 Maximilian Wilfan, resulting in an apparent injury. As the video shows, Lustenau, after an end-zone face-off win, plays the puck along the boards. Wilfan, located at the half-wall, tries to get the puck out of the zone with a hard shot. As a left handed player he is standing with the back to the boards after this shot. Hällfors coming in with speed, alters his skating lane to approach Wilfan and elevates up and in to deliver the hit.

This is charging.

It is important to note, after Wilfan played the puck, Hällfors firstly, by altering his skating lane into the direction of Wilfan and turning by almost 180 degrees short before delivering the hit shows, that he had no regard for the puck on this play. Secondly, Hällfors delivered that hit in a manner, where he elevated into the hit causing the back of Wilfan's head to make heavy impact with the glass. Hällfors had the time to react and to make a better choice than delivering this forceful hit by either minimizing impact or not making the check.

Effective immediately, the Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Elmeri Hällfors
for 2 games.

To summarize:

  • This is charging
  • Forceful
  • Elevates into the hit
