Kevin King (#25) of S.G. Cortina Hafro, time ~61:00, made contact with an opponent deemed as a Check to the Head or Neck, IIHF Rule 124. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 – ‘Reckless’ – a deliberate and/or dangerous action with no concern for the result, with a conscious action to provoke, through intent and a willful purpose. Injury is not the determining factor but can be considered as influential means to the decision.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player Kevin King (#25) of S.G. Cortina Hafro, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 124 – Checking to the Head or Neck.
On Sunday, October 20th, (#25) Kevin King of S.G. Cortina Hafro, was involved in an incident deemed as a check to the head.

Considering it was overtime and play was 3 on 3. The opposing team made a pass to the open side, allowing the opposing player to skate into the attacking zone for a scoring opportunity. The opposing player is considered in a natural body position for both skating and shooting and is not the cause of head contact.

The defending player, (#25) Kevin King, realizing the opposing player has open ice to the net, skated across ice to make a defensive play. Immediately before making a body check, Kevin King altered his body to put his weight on his outside (right) skate to cut into the opposing player. The weight transfer allowed Kevin King to slightly cut in to make left shoulder contact. The reason for supplementary discipline is the contact is primarily to the head of the opposing player. The responsibility is on Kevin King to make a legal (shoulder to body) check and avoid head contact. The head contact did lead to an apparent injury.

Effective immediately, Kevin King (#25) is suspended for 2 games.
