Moritz Matzka (#8) of EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, time 50:51, made contact with an opponent deemed as Kneeing, IIHF Rule 50. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attention or thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affect an opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.

Thursday night, October 12th, in Kitzbühel an incident occurred deemed as kneeing. Kitzbühel D'Man #8 Moritz Matzka was assessed a 2-minute minor penalty for kneeing Lustenau forward #28 Lenz Moosbrugger. As the video shows, Moosbrugger gains possession of the puck in his D'Zone and skates towards the neutral zone. Matzka as a D'Man is positioned at the blue line, reacting to Mossbrugger's puck win and trying to get in position to deliver a hit on Mossbrugger. As Moosbrugger sees Matzka coming he plays the puck to the boards on his right side and tries to avoid Matzka over the left side. Matzka cuts in, leading with his right leg, delivering a hit where the leg of Mossbrugger is the main point of contact.

This is kneeing.

It is important to note, while Moosbrugger is attempting to make a move around Matzka, this is not a case where a leg extension by a player receiving a hit turns the potential for a body check into leg-on-leg contact. The 2 players, although moving in opposite directions, is not deemed at a speed whereby Matzka had no chance to make a legal body to body check. Instead, Matzka beat on his right side, resorts to a body movement that extends his knee out, directly in the path of Moosbrugger's lane to get a piece of him. If Matzka wants to make contact on this play, he must ensure he can make more substantial upper body contact, rather than have the force of the blow concentrated on the leg area of his opponent.

Effective immediately, Moritz Matzka of EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, is suspended for 2 games.

To summarize:
