Raphael Herburger (#89) of EC-KAC time 52:04 was involved in an incident deemed as Head-butting (IIHF Rule 47). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 2 - 'Reckless'.

Friday night in Vienna, Klagenfurt forward #89 Raphael Herburger was involved in an incident deemed as a Head-Butt on Vienna D-Man #33 Seamus Donohue resulting in a 5-minute major penalty plus game-misconduct being assessed.

As the video shows, both Herburger and Donohue engage each other behind the VIC net, where Donohue took exception and engaged Herburger with a push through the use of his stick at the stoppage. In a retaliatory manner, Herburger turned and through the use of his head, made direct contact with the head of Donohue.

This is a Head-Butt.

It is important to note this is not deemed an incidental type movement, where two players head's
can make contact within an ice battle. Instead, it is deemed that Herburger made a direct, purposeful and deliberate head movement directly at Donohue, striking Donohue in the head. Considering
Donohue does not engage in an overly aggressive manner, Herburger being fully aware of Donohue located in very close proximity and Herburger deliberately and dangerously using his head as the main and only force of contact, demonstrates this is not an incidental head movement, raising the head movement to a head-butt, warranting supplementary discipline.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Raphael Herburger for 2 games and fined 400.00 euros.

To summarize:

  • This is a Head-Butt
  • Direct contact to opponents head
  • Not a repeat offender
