Unterland still unstoppable

The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers remain in the Alps Hockey League also in the fifth game without defeat and are still on top of the table without losing any points. Directly behind the league newcomer follows HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice in second place. The Slovenians won the top game of the day against the EK Die Zeller Eisbären with 4:2. The new third-placed S.G. Cortina Hafro won for the fourth time in a row. Player of the day was Brad McGowan from HC Gherdeina valgardena.it with a hattrick.

Also the EC Die Alder Stadtwerke Kitzbühel could not stop league newcomer Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. Despite an early lead, the Tyroleans lost in the end clearly with 1:5. HCU scored twice in both the first and second period. In the final period they scored another goal. In the fifth AHL game it was their fifth win. For Kitzbühel it was the second defeat in a row. They are eleventh in the standings.

Jesenice wins in Zell am See
In the top game of the day, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice kept the upper hand at the EK Die Zeller Eisbären with 4:2 and celebrated their second win within 24 hours. On Friday evening they gave the EC Bregenzerwald no chance at home with 6:0. In front of more than 1600 spectators, the Slovenians took the lead already in the second minute of the game. Although Zell am See was able to answer in the fifth minute, it was the guests who pulled away. It took until the 32nd minute before Gasper Sersen made the 2:1. Just over ten minutes later, the 22-year-old forward increased the lead to 3:1. In the final period, both teams scored once more. For Jesenice it was the fourth win in a row. In the table, they are tied with Unterland on points in second place, but have already played one game more. Zell am See, which has won three of its five games so far, is sixth in the table.

Cortina moves up to third place
Just like Jesenice, S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated their fourth win in a row. The Italians gave the HC Meran/o Pircher no chance in a 5:0 home win and moved up to the third place in the table. Merano is in 14th place with three points. SGC goalkeeper Marco De Filippo saved all 21 shots on goal and celebrated a shutout for the first time this season. For Merano, Ben Hawerchuk was no longer in the squad. After one goal and four assists in the first five games, the 24-year-old has decided to sign a try-out contract in the American Hockey League. In addition, the South Tyrolean team signed 20-year-old Pascal Brunner, who previously played in some Swiss youth teams.

Young Bulls and Bregenzerwald with away wins
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors are in fourth place in the standings. On Saturday evening they were successful at the Steinbach Steel Wings Linz with 4:2. After 40 minutes, the Young Bulls were already comfortably ahead 2:0 before the Steel Wings equalized with two goals. Four minutes before the end of the game, however, RBJ was able to take control of the game again. Thomas Heigl scored the game-winner. In the last minute of the game, Oskar Maier scored the final goal. In the second Austrian duel of the day, the EC Bregenzerwald prevailed over the EC-KAC Future Team. The ECB won with 3:1 after the Future Team even took the lead in the seventh minute. However, goals from Lehtonen, Ranftl and Fässler allowed ECB to turn the game around and celebrate their first full win of the season.

Hattrick of McGowan
Brad McGowan was the only player to score three times on Saturday evening. The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it forward thus played a major role in his team's 5:2 win over the SHC Fassa Falcons. The Canadian scored all three goals in the powerplay, and the MVP of the 2020/21 season also prepared one goal. For Val Gardena it was the third win of the season. In the standings, they occupy a strong fifth place with ten points. Fassa has four points and is eleventh in the table.

Ritten signs Armin Hofer
The eighth-placed team in the standings, Rittner Buam SkyAlps, were without a game on Saturday but were active on the transfer market and signed Armin Hofer for the rest of the season. The defender comes from the HC Pustertal, for whom the veteran played more than 800 games and scored more than 400 points.
