At first, Austria was an equal opponent. It was not until minute 28 that Rocco Grimaldi put the leader of Group A in the lead. Only a short time later, Austria answered perfectly. In the first powerplay of the match for Austria, Thomas Raffl scored to make it 1:1. It was the captain's third World Cup goal. Only 57 seconds later the USA took the lead again and at the beginning of the final period the North Americans even managed to score the goal to make it 3:1. Dominic Zwerger had the chance to reduce the score to 2:3 with a penalty shot nine minutes before the end of the game, but failed against US goalkeeper Calvin Petersen. The final decision for the so far undefeated Americans was finally made by Nick Perbix two and a half minutes before the end of the game with an empty-net goal.

For Austria, the World Championship in Tampere continues on Friday against Germany (19:20/ORF Sport+). Tomorrow, Thursday, with Hungary and Slovenia the remaining two win2day ICE Hockey League nations are in action.
