It was the perfect start for Val Gardena in their first-ever finals series against Merano. With a 5–1 win on the road, they immediately secured home-ice advantage. In front of their passionate fans, “La Furie” have been particularly strong. Of their seven postseason home games so far, they have lost just once – a 6–2 defeat to the Red Bull Hockey Juniors in the quarterfinals. The other six games were all victories, and they never conceded more than two goals in any of those wins.

In the semifinals against Zell am See, they allowed just two goals across three home games. Merano, on the other hand, has won five of its eight away games so far – most recently the decisive Game 7 of the semifinals in Sisak, 3–2. In their last head-to-head meeting in Val Gardena on January 31, Meran edged a narrow 1–0 victory. Earlier, on October 25, Val Gardena came out on top 4–3 in overtime.
