The spusu Vienna Capitals started successful into preseason, as the vice champion celebrated a 3:1 win at MAC Budapest. While champion EC-KAC and the EC Panaceo VSV remain unbeaten, the EHC LIWEST Black Wings Linz and the Dornbirn Bulldogs got victories too. Further, the EC Red Bull Salzburg suffered a 1:4 defeat at its opener and the HC Orli Znojmo lost to CHL participant Mountfield HK.

Successful preseason debut for Vienna
The spusu Vienna Capitals started successful into preseason, as the vice champion celebrated a 3:1 win at MAC Budapest. After 13 minutes Dominic Hackl gave the Austrian side the lead, assisted by former MVP Riley Holzapfel. About halfway through the second den Viennese doubled up with Alex Wall. In the last, when Bernhard Starkbaum replaced Ryan Zapolski, the Hungarian side halved the deficit as Tomas Klempa scored on powerplay. After Budapest pulled its netminder in the end Sondre Olden rounded off the score.

EC-KAC and EC Panaceo VSV remain unbeaten
The EC-KAC and the EC Panaceo VSV remain unbeaten in this year’s preseason campaign. The champion defeated Slovakian counterpart HC Banska Bystrica at the Pavol Zábojník memorial tournament 7:4 with seven different players scoring. VSV’s new arrival Kevin Schmidt secured “eagle’s” second preseason win three minutes to go, to beat reigning Alps Hockey League champion HK SZ Olimpija 1:0.

Linz wins homegame against Budweis
The EHC Black Wings Linz got its first preseason win, as the upper Austrians defeated Czech side Ceske Budejovice 4:1. A rebound of Justin Florek gave Linz shorthanded the lead after 16 minutes. After Budweis tied the game at the beginning of the second, netminder David Kickert saved his colors of a deficit. Still in the second the Black Wings took back the lead, as Dan DaSilva and Mark McNeill – on powerplay – each scored. About three minutes to go the Czech side pulled the goalie and Brian Lebler fixed the result with an empty netter.

Dornbirn defeats Bad Nauheim
After switching the line-up compared to the first preparation game, the Dornbirn Bulldogs grabbed a 4:3 victory against German side EC Bad Nauheim at home. An early brace of William Rapuzzi and a wrap-around of Evan Trupp – both new arrivals – gave the Bulldogs a comfortable 3:0-lead after 15 minutes. Nauheim pulled one back later in the first and halved the deficit in the second. Right at the beginning of the last Mathias Bau scored on powerplay and secured the win.

Salzburg and Znojmo suffer defeat
While the EC Red Bull Salzburg lost its preseason opener against Swiss team ZSC Lions 1:4, the HC Orli Znojmo suffered a 3:5 defeat against CHL participant Mountfield HK. Salzburg was busy on the defensive end, trailing 0:4 after 40 minutes. Only John Hughes got his colors on the scoreboard about nine minutes to go in the last. Also the “eagles“ could not score in the first two frames, being down 0:3 after two periods. With tow quick goals at the beginning of the last the Czech side made it thrill again, until Mountfield deciding the game about halfway through the last.
