Release from 19.10.2023
On a full Thursday game day of the Alps Hockey League, the top-3 teams celebrated full victories. EK Zeller Eisbären thus remain at the top of the table, followed by HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Fourth place, meanwhile, was claimed by S.G. Cortina Hafro in a shootout win. League newcomer HK RST Pellet Celje also celebrated its highest AHL win in its still short league affiliation.
Zell maintains lead in the standings
EK Die Zeller Eisbären remain at the top of the table after a 4-3 win over the Rittner Buam. The encounter was hard fought from the start. While the Buam created numerous chances, the Polar Bears were the more efficient team, especially because Tomi Wilenius provided a brace. With nine wins out of ten games Zell is still on top of the Alps Hockey League. The Buam, meanwhile, lost some ground to the top three and even had to give up fourth place in the standings to Cortina.
Clear win for Jesenice against KAC
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice had no problems against the EC-KAC Future Team. The defending champions, who remain in second place in the standings, prevailed 7-1 in Slovenia. Jesenice had seven different players on the scoresheet. Zan Jezovsek continued his impressive scoring streak with a goal to take his tally to 17 points after ten games this season (including ten goals).
Broncos back on the road to success
After the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan had been at the top of the table for a few rounds, they conceded two defeats last week and slipped down to third place. However, the Broncos could now confirm the top-3-place with a clear victory over EHC Lustenau. James Livingston started the match for Sterzing with a brace. By the 28th minute, the Broncos had built up a 5-0 lead. Lustenau briefly regained hope after two goals within five minutes, but this was quickly dashed by Lingston's third goal of the evening. Sterzing finally celebrated an 8:2 victory.
Cortina knocks down Unterland in shootout
S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated its second victory within 48 hours. After the clear success against Celje on Tuesday, it was much more exciting on Thursday. But Unterland got the better start first, who needed less than 80 seconds for the first goal. In an exciting game, the lead changed three times. In the shootout, Massimo Carozza finally provided the decision. With this success, the finalists of the previous season moved up to fourth place in the standings.
Celje celebrates its highest AHL win
Just 48 hours after the tough 1:7 loss against S.G. Cortina Hafro, HK RST Pellet Celje celebrated a 7:2 blowout win over SHC Fassa Falcons - its highest victory in its still short AHL history. It was a whimsical start in Slovenia on Thursday night. Within the first five minutes already three goals were scored - two of them for the guests from Fassa. Celje managed to equalize before the end of the first period. In the second period, the hosts even turned the game around with a brace within two minutes. From this point on, the newcomer played big and celebrated a clear success. Mikus Mintautiskis scored a hat-trick for the Slovenians, Luka Kala added a brace.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors continue upward trend
After a flop start to the season, with four losses from the first four games, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors have got back on track and have now recorded their fourth win in the last five games. Bregenzerwald, on the other hand, suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games. Until the beginning of the second period, however, the Wälder were still well in the game and equalized twice. Then the Juniors put themselves ahead 4:2 with a double pack within only 30 seconds. Bregenzerwald managed to narrow the gap twice, but could not force the overtime and had to admit defeat 4:5.
Steel Wings extend negative streak of Kitzbühel
The Steel Wings Linz AG fought their way to victory over EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. While the Upper Austrians have found their way back to success after a rather mixed phase lately, the negative trend of the Eagles extends to four defeats in a row. Up to 3:2, Kitzbühel was ahead three times in this encounter. Then the Linz team turned the match around and made it 5:3 in the meantime. Kitzbühel managed to score the connecting goal, but the Steel Wings finally prevailed 5:4. Both Kilian Rappold and Raffael Aigner scored a brace.
Second win for Gherdeina in a row
After HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated its first win of the season after regular playing time in Fassa on Sunday and was thus able to give up the red lantern, Val Gardena went one better a few days later. With a clear 6:1 victory over the HC Meran/o the connection to the midfield was achieved. Bradley McGowan scored a brace.
