Release from 26.12.2020
The short Christmas break of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League came to a spectacular end with the ICE Boxing Day. The two first-placed teams each celebrated sovereign victories. HCB Südtirol Alperia and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 are now already ten points ahead of third-placed spusu Vienna Capitals. The Viennese had to admit defeat against the Black Wings 1992 under new head coach Dan Ceman. Tenth-placed EC Grand Immo VSV also celebrated a full success over the Moser Medical Graz99ers. In the western derby, the Dornbirn Bulldogs beat HC TIWAG Innsbruck for the first time this season.
Linz ends losing streak on Ceman debut
Two days after Dan Ceman was presented as Pierre Beaulieu's successor, the 47-year-old Canadian was able to celebrate a successful debut. After five defeats in a row, the Steinbach Black Wings 1992 managed to win again. The spusu Vienna Capitals, meanwhile, suffered their fifth defeat in a row. The two teams met for the third time this season. After one home win each by Vienna and Linz, the first away win followed in this duel. The main reason for this victory was Linz goalkeeper David Kickert, who saved 46 shots from the Viennese. After trailing 0:1, the 26-year-old Linzer, who used to keep goal for the Viennese, did not allow another goal. On the side of the Black Wings 1992 scored Will Pelletier as well as Oskars Bartulis, who provided the game-winner in the second period.
Fehérvár records longest winning streak in club history
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 beat the iClinic Bratislava Capitals for the third time in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League and extended its winning streak to eight games. With the longest winning streak in club history in this league, the Hungarians increased their lead over third-placed Vienna to ten points and are gradually pulling away from the competition in step with league leaders Bolzano. The iClinic Bratislava Capitals suffered another defeat away from home after three away wins in a row. The Hungarians laid the foundation for their success already in the first period, which they won 3:0. The Capitals came back in the second period, but could not close the gap. Fehérvár finally prevailed 4:2.
VSV wins in Graz
EC Grand Immo VSV won 3:1 against Moser Medical Graz99ers in a Sky Sport Austria live game. While the team from Villach was able to record the second win in a row, the Styrians, with a tight personnel cover, managed only one success in the past twelve games. In the third meeting in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League, the eagles managed a success against the 99ers for the first time. Especially Villach goalie Alexander Schmidt shone on this evening. The ex-Villach player Adis Alagic was able to break the Graz goal barrier of 7 periods in the 21st minute, but after that there was no getting past the 20-year-old goalie. In the standings, the Eagles reduced the gap to the ninth-placed Bratislava Capitals to three points.
Dornbirn overtakes Innsbruck after first win of the season in West derby
The Dornbirn Bulldogs recorded their first win in the third western derby of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. In the clash between the two table neighbors, the Bulldogs prevailed 7-4 to overtake the Sharks in the standings. While Innsbruck failed to pick up any points for the first time in the last six games, the team from Vorarlberg even registered points in each of the last seven games. The Dornbirn side started strongly in the western derby and gained a 3:0 lead within the first 19 minutes. As they have done many times this season, HC TIWAG Innsbruck showed comeback qualities and equalized by the 25th minute. Once again, the Vorarlberg team put three goals ahead. The Sharks could not make up this deficit. The Bulldogs have not been able to score seven goals in a game for almost two years. Innsbruck, on the other hand, conceded seven goals for the second time this season.
Bolzano defends top of the standings
HCB Südtirol Alperia beat EC Red Bull Salzburg 2-0 and defended the Hungarian attack on the top of the table. While the South Tyroleans managed to win again after the bitter defeat against Villach, Salzburg had to accept their third defeat in a row and thus lost the immediate connection to the midfield of the standings. The two teams met for the first time this season. After a scoreless opening third, the Foxes laced a brace within five minutes in the second period. Foxes newcomer Andreas Bernard celebrated his second shutout in his third game.
