Born in San Diego, California, Kallen attended Ferris State University from 2016 to 2020. During his college career, he appeared in 146 games for the Bulldogs, recording 64 points (20 goals and 44 assists) and serving as team captain in his senior season. Following the conclusion of his college career, Kallen began his professional journey in the spring of 2020 with the Maine Mariners in the ECHL. Between the Mariners and the Rapid City Rush, he appeared in 93 games up until February 2023. During the 2021/22 campaign, Kallen earned an AHL tryout with the Springfield Thunderbirds, scoring one goal in three appearances.

In February 2023, Kallen made his first move overseas, joining Slovak top-flight club Slovan Bratislava. The following 2023/24 season, he played for the Glasgow Clan in the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League, where he led all team defensemen in scoring with 23 points (5 goals and 18 assists). Ahead of this season, he returned to North America to join the ECHL’s Tahoe Knight Monsters. In 72 regular-season games last year, Kallen registered 28 points (7 goals and 21 assists), a total he has already matched this season after just 46 appearances. His current 28 points are made up of five goals and 23 assists, once again making him the team’s top-scoring defenseman.

“I’m really excited to join the Capitals at this point of the season. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the organization, the city, and the support from the fans. With the postseason coming up, I’m ready to give everything I’ve got and help the team make a strong push,” said the new addition.
