The Vienna Capitals beat HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ 8:2 and earned the top-position. Champion HCB Südtirol Alperia stayed unbeaten as well: The "Foxes" were successful in Linz (3:2/SO). Besides, Fehervar AV19 and the Moser Medical Graz99ers earned wins on Friday.
The Vienna Capitals beat HC TWK Innsbruck „Die Haie“ 8:2 and earned the top-position. The Caps were the chiefs on the ice: Captain Andreas Nödl opened the scoring in a Power Play in minute 7. The Caps were on fire in period 2 as well (17:1-shots) and extended their lead with goals from Tessier, Davis, Schneider, Arniel, Hartl and DeSousa - 7:0. In the end, the Caps celebrated a 8:2-win.
The Moser Medical Graz99ers have won their home-opener against EC Panaceo VSV 4:2. The "Eagles" have been defeated for the first time this season. The Styrians got a 2:0-lead from King (16.) and Loney (22.). Villach had a quick answer: Wolf surprised goalie Höneckl with a shot from the blue line. Graz responded with a Power Play goal from Hamilton – 3:1. The scoring continued just 42 seconds later: Alderson took advantage from a mistake from Weihager and potted the 2:3. Then, the Eagles took some penalties and this was punished by the 99ers: Yellow Horn potted the 4:2 5-on-3 with a onetimer. Each team could not score in the last period.
Bozen took two penalties late in the first period and this was punished by the Black Wings: Kevin Kapstad scored the 1:0 from the slot. The Austrians had the upper hand in period 2, but they could not extend their lead. Laurens Ober, Aaron Brocklehurst and Dragan Umicevic came closest to score, all three hit the post. Out of nowhere, the Foxes managed to turn the game with two goals from Blunden within just three minutes in period 3. The Black Wings put pressure on their opponent in the final minutes and were rewarded with the 2:2 from Kearns in minute 60. The game went to Overtime and to Shoot Out. Micelli scored the deciding Penalty for Bozen.
Mike Caruso played his first game in blue-white after his transfer from Dornbirn to Fehervar against Klagenfurt. The game started with a Fehervar powerplay, Luttinen threatened then Hari shot from the side but Daniel Szabo did not manage to deflect the puck. Five on five, Petersen and Kozek both tested Carruth but without success. In the middle of the period, Tikkanen fouled, however, it was not Klagenfurt but Fehervar to score, Harty puck the puck in the net after a breakaway. The second part of the period went on in front of Fehervar’s net but Fehervar kept the one-goal lead due to Carruth’s saves. 5 minutes before the buzzer, Fehervar had another powerplay chance, without success. The second period started with Caruso’s blueliner, then Erdely missed in front of the net. Until the middle of the second 20 minutes, neither team threatened, then Koskiranta passed to Kuralt and he didn’t miss. Fehervar pushed harder in the upcoming minutes, it was Kuralt again opposite Haugen but this time, the goalie saved. Caruso fouled 5 minutes before the end of the period, and yet Klagenfurt did not have many chances five on four. At the end of the period, Koger hit the crossbar but the goal difference remained two. Daniel Szabo got a penalty at the beginning of the third period but Klagenfurt was not effective five on four. Playing full strength, Fehervar was forced to defend but either Carruth saved or the home players blocked the shots. The pressure resulted in a goal in the middle of the period, Slim Liivik put the puck in the net after a pass from behind. The Hungarians could have answered right away but both Koger and Sofron missed. 90 seconds left in the game, Matikainen used his timeout and Klagenfurt tied the game as he also pulled Madlener, six on five a shot from Kozek went behind Carruth. Neither team risked in the overtime, and although both partied had their chances, the game went into shootouts. In the first three rounds Kozek, Wahl, Hari and Sofron all scored, then Hari didn’t miss, whereas Kozek’s shot was saved by Carruth and Fehervar won the game.
