Luke Moncada was selected in the third round of the 2016 Ontario Hockey League "Priority Selection" by the Guelph Storm, where Caps head coach Dave Barr served as general manager and coach prior to his long NHL career. The 21-year-old Canadian developed into a reliable scorer in the OHL from then on, recording 103 points (52 goals, 51 assists) in 203 games from 2017 to 2020 in a North Bay Battalion Jersey. In his final OHL season, Moncada finished with a whopping 60 points (34 goals, 26 assists) in 62 games as an assistant captain. "On the ice, I would describe myself as a reliable two-way forward. I think I can read the game pretty well. Of course, that creates offensive moments, but at the same time I can also be used defensively in any situation," says the young Canadian, who made a conscious decision to work with Dave Barr: "One reason why I'm coming to Vienna is also head coach Dave Barr. I want to take the opportunity to play under him and learn from him. Of course, my goal is to be successful with the team. At the same time, I also want to develop personally."
