EC GRAND Immo VSV got off to a perfect start in the first of two duels within 24 hours with HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie when Maximilian Rebernig scored a one-timer to take the lead after just two and a half minutes. For the 21-year-old it was the third goal within the last five games. The “Haie”, with Florian Pedevilla replacing Head Coach Mitch O'Keefe, then took command and the lead, as Zach Magwood (14.) went top shelf for the deserved equalizer.

With a brilliant start into the middle frame, the Tyroleans were able to build a two-goal lead: Mike Huntebrinker, who scored for the eleventh consecutive game, equaling the previous record holder Filip Ahl (ZNO), and Ben Betker made it 3-1 for the home team in the first two and a half minutes. But then Villach took more and more control of the game and halved the deficit still in the middle period when John Hughes found Marco Richter (37.) in the slot. In the final period everything went in Villach's favor, as Chris Collins turned the game in favor of the league runners-up after a counterattack (44.) and a rebound (53.). Rick Schofield rounded off the score with two empty-netters.
