Release from 15.11.2022
In the first round after the International-Break especially the Carinthian teams of the win2day ICE Hockey League came back strong. While EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV defeated the league leader HCB Südtirol Alperia with 6:3, EC-KAC celebrated a 3:1 success in the Pack derby against Moser Medical Graz99ers. New second of the win2day ICE Hockey League is HC TIWAG Innsbruck after victory over BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. Hydro Fehérvár AV 19, meanwhile, extended its Eastern derby series against Vienna. League newcomer Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey celebrated a win over HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana on Tuesday to move to the heels of the Slovenians in the standings.
VSV defeats league leader
EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV started the league action with a statement after the break. The team from Villach celebrated a 6:3 success against league leader HCB Südtirol and climbed up to fifth place in the table. The Foxes remain at the top of the table despite their fifth away defeat. At first, however, it looked like a low-scoring game in Villach. It was only late in the second period that the fans in the Stadthalle Villach were allowed to cheer for the first time - but then twice: Alexander Rauchenwald gave his team a 2:0 lead with a brace within four minutes. The momentum was carried over into the final period. Philipp Lindner made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute before Rauchenwald followed up with what was supposed to be his third goal of the evening. However, the supposed 4:0 was denied after video study due to an offside position. The league leader rebelled once again and reduced the score to 3:1 in powerplay, but the Eagles never let the Foxes get closer and kept going forward with goals from Benjamin Lanzinger and John Hughes. In the end, Rauchenwald scored a hat trick. The 29-year-old Austrian scored an empty-netter to make the final score 6:3.
KAC wins "pack-derby"
Already on the last matchday before the national team break, the EC-KAC made a clear statement after its negative series with a resounding win against the Caps. The positive trend could now be continued after the break. In the Pack derby, the "Rotjacken" celebrated a 3:1 win against the Moser Medical Graz99ers and thus moved into the top-6 of the win2day ICE Hockey League. Klagenfurt dominated the first period and rewarded themselves with goals from the two Austrians Manuel Ganahl and Lukas Haudum. In the second period, the Styrians got into the game better, the home side also made life difficult for themselves through penalties. The Graz99ers did not miss a chance in double overtime and Viktor Granholm reduced the score to 1:2. However, Lucas Lessio restored the old 2-goal lead in the middle third. Sebastian Dahm and the KAC defense did not allow anything more in the final period and finally celebrated a 3:1 victory. For the Styrians this was - after a point series of four games - already the second "zero" in a row. The gap to sixth-placed Klagenfurt is now four points.
Innsbruck climbs to second place
HC TIWAG Innsbruck was able to continue its run after the break. The Sharks' 5-2 win over league newcomer BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg was the Tyroleans' fourth full win in a row. The win moved the Innsbruck side to within three points of league leaders Bolzano, but they played one game less than the leaders. The Pioneers, on the other hand, are gradually losing touch with the other teams as the last team in the table. However, the Vorarlberg team still held valiantly against defeat in the first 45 minutes. After one goal each from Innsbruck in the first and second period, newcomer Guus van Nes scored the Pioneers' connecting goal. However, a brace by Daniel Leavens within 20 seconds then ensured the decision for the Sharks. Innsbruck finally celebrated a 5:2 home win.
Fehérvár extends eastern derby series
Both the spusu Vienna Capitals and Hydro Fehérvár AV 19 weakened a bit before the international break. After the break, the Viennese initially got off to the better start. Caps top scorer Max Zimmer put his team already in the lead in the third minute, scoring the first goal league-wide after the ICE break. The visitors from Hungary increased the pressure from that point on and finally managed to beat Caps goalie Starkbaum for the first time this evening through Andrew O'Brien in the middle period. Alex Petan provided the game winner in the 55th minute. For Fehérvár this was already the fourth win against the Viennese in a row - the second this season. In the standings, the previous season's runners-up managed to leave the Caps behind. While the Hungarians climbed to seventh place, Vienna currently have to settle for eighth.
Asiago close on Ljubljana's heels
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey decided the duel of two table stragglers. The Yellow-Red's 2-1 away win against HK SZ Olimpija continued the positive trend - Asiago won four of the last five ICE games. The Slovenian's lead over the league newcomer is now only two points after the defeat in the direct encounter. Asiago earned a 2-0 lead until the 32nd minute on Tuesday. Ljubljana managed to cut it short a little later, but Gianluca Vallini didn't let anything happen despite a pressure-packed final period from the Slovenians.
