The 30-year-old Després was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins from 2009 and has played a total of 222 NHL games. Most recently, the defender played two seasons for the Eisbären Berlin, lifting the DEL championship trophy twice.

Després began his career with Rousseau Sports de Laval-Bourassa in the Québec Midget Hockey League, a regional Canadian junior league. The Pittsburgh Penguins secured the rights to the new Villach defenseman in the 2009 National Hockey League first round at No. 30. He played a total of 222 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Anaheim Ducks in the strongest hockey league in the world. In the process, he scored 7 goals and 43 assists.

In the 2017/18 season, the tall defensive player ventured to Europe for the first time - he played for HC Slovan Bratislava (4 goals, 7 assists) in the KHL and for IK Oskarsham (4 goals and 13 assists) in Sweden's top league (SHL), among others. In the past two seasons, Simon Desprès played for the Eisbären Berlin - with great success: He won the DEL title twice and impressed with a total of 43 scorer points and a plus-minus-balance of +27!

Simon Desprès is already looking forward to Villach and the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV: "I have of course informed myself extensively about the city, the organization and the team. I am sure that together we can be successful. I don't know any players personally, but I played against Andrew Desjardins in the DEL playoffs this year. I believe we will have a very strong team. My goal is for us to be successful together and win the title. I always want to win."
