VSV does not win despite a four-time lead

The EC GRAND Immo VSV lost against the HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie with 5:4-SO despite a four-time lead. It was HCI's second victory over the VSV in the second duel of the season. In the league table Innsbruck remains in eighth place, Villach is still in eleventh place.

The better start into the second duel this season between the HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie and the EC GRAND Immo VSV had the guests. Already in the second minute of the game Raphael Wolf scored the 1:0 for Villach. But the lead did not last long, because only 48 seconds later Samuell Herr scored in the powerplay to make it 1:1. In the following it was still the offensive of both teams that created numerous chances. In the defense there were big gaps on both sides. And so it only lasted until the ninth minute of the game before the next goal was scored. Chris Collins increased the score to 2:1 for the Carinthians. But also this time the lead of the VSV did not last long. In the 13th minute of the game, HCI managed to equalize again by defender Jonathan Racine-Clarke. It was the Canadian's first goal of the season. Only four minutes later Villach took the lead again. Martin Ulmer scored his fourth goal of the season. With the score of 3:2 for Villach the first period ended.

In the middle period the defenses of both teams stabilized, which resulted in significantly fewer chances to score. Although VSV was closer to 4:2 for most of the match, Innsbruck scored the only goal. 19 seconds before the end of the period Jan Lattner scored in a powerplay. Only a few minutes earlier the Czech defender had already had a chance to equalize with a penalty.

In the last period the guests again got the better start. Jerry Pollastrone scored after two minutes and 35 seconds after a strong individual action to make it 4:3, but the lead again lasted only briefly. Daniel Ciampini scored only one minute and 40 seconds later to equalize the score for the eight in the league table from Innsbruck. After that both teams had further chances to decide the game in regular playing time. But as none of the teams succeeded, the game went into overtime.

In this Innsbruck had an early powerplay, but could not create big chances. Shortly afterwards the VSV was also awarded a powerplay. But also the Villach team did not manage to score the decisive goal. So the decision had to be made in the penalty shootout. In this Braden Christoffer and Max Gerlach scored for the HCI. On the side of the VSV no player was successful. So Innsbruck won with 5:4 after Shootout. It was the second victory of the Tyroleans over the Carinthians in the second duel of the season.
