Renars Krastenbergs began his ice hockey career in his native Latvia with SK Riga. In 2015 he moved to North America, where he was very successful scoring for two years in the Ohl for the Oshawa Generals (62 points, including 30 goals in 124 games). Due to his strong performances, he was then brought to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). And there, he also proved to be extremely effective for the Wheeling Nailers, the second farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins - 74 points in 114 games, including 32 goals. Most recently, the Latvian national team player also played for Dinamo Riga in the KHL. Krastenbergs has also gained a lot of international experience - he has been a permanent member of the Latvian national team since 2017 and has scored six goals in eight games for his country. Just a few weeks ago, he also provided two assists in three games for Latvia at the 2020 Germany Cup.

VSV Sports Director Gerald Rauchenwald: "Krastenbergs is a young, skating and technically strong forward who has already gained some international experience. He is very versatile, can play both center and wing. Since we unfortunately still have to do without some offensive players in the longer term due to injury, we have acted and signed a young player with potential."
