Collins gives VSV first preseason win
With a 5:4 overtime win on the road against MAC Budapest, the EC Panaceo VSV opened this year’s preseason campaign successful. After a non-goal opening frame, both new arrivals – Patrick Björkstrand and Chris Collins – tied a 0:2-deficit late in the second. Nevertheless, the Austrian side trailed by one after 40 minutes. Goals of Nico Brunner and Martin Ulmer about halfway through the last were not enough to win in regular time, as Budapest tied it up about three minutes to go. With his second goal of the game Collins secured the overtime-win after 56 seconds.

MAC Budapest – EC Panaceo VSV 4:5 OT (0:0, 3:2, 1:2, 0:1)
Goals VSV: Björkstrand (17.), Collins (18., 61.), Brunner (50.), Ulmer (51.)

Fehervar AV19 loses to CHL-team Cardiff
Fehervar AV19 lost its first preseason game at the Cardiff Devils 2:5. After trailing 0:1 early in the game, Jonathan Harty tied it up for last year’s Erste Bank Eishockey Liga quarterfinalist in the 14th minute. Champions Hockey League participant Cardiff retake the lead in the middle frame and made it more comfortable around halfway through the last (4:1). Áron Reisz pulled one back for Fehervar about 3.20 to go, before Joey Haddad, who scored twice for the hosts, hit an empty netter to round off the score. Fehervar takes on Cardiff tomorrow at 7.00 again.

Hannu Järvenpää, Headcoach AVS: „Off course we cannot be happy with a loss. It was tough. We only had 14 players available and under these circumstances I saw a lot of good things, but also things we can improve. The special teams did not work well tonight, that’s why the home team scored on PP. Overall, I have to be positive about this game. Cardiff is the best team in England.”
