...Nicolai Meyer is on hand time and time again. After the Dane had already shot EC Red Bull Salzburg to the championship title in 2023, the now 30-year-old not only brought the "Red Bulls" to the final with an overtime goal, but also provided the first match pucks for the "three-peat" - also with a decisive goal in overtime. And this despite the fact that Meyer is not usually one of the Red Bulls' top scorers: Across the season, 23% of his goals for Salzburg (3 out of 13) were "big-goals" that either won the title, got them into the finals or match pucks in the finals. For his last goal, Nicolai Meyer was named win2day top performer of the fifth final game. In this article, we take a look at all of the Salzburg forwrad's "big goals".

He is the crack for the important goals: Nicolai Meyer. Meyer scored his most recent "big goal" in the fifth final game against the EC-KAC - in overtime, of course. The 30-year-old Dane was only re-signed by Salzburg in mid-February and has scored four goals since then - half of them decisive goals in overtime. With his goal to make it 3:2 in the 67th minute of the fifth final game, he gave EC Red Bull Salzburg two match pucks on the "three-peat", i.e. their third title win in a row.

Meyer shoots Red Bulls into the final

The Red Bulls also have Nicolai Meyer to thank for the fact that they are in the final at all. After the forward had only scored twice in 15 games since his re-signing, the #72 was on hand in the seventh and decisive semifinal game against HCB Südtirol Alperia. Meyer fired the Red Bulls into the final - with his first playoff goal of the campaign - in the second minute of overtime, creating déjà vu for the first time.

Championship-winning goal

The fact that the Red Bulls started the season as defending champions was largely down to Nicolai Meyer. Initially, however, Meyer did not appear as a goal scorer in the 2023 playoffs either. In his first 13 postseason games, the forward failed to score a single goal. The "Red Bulls" nevertheless made it to a seventh game in the final series against HCB Südtirol Alperia. And "when it comes down to it", Nicolai Meyer is there to help: with just over 100 seconds left on the clock, the man of the "big goals" ensured EC Red Bull Salzburg won the championship.

A "big goals quota" to be proud of
Nicolai Meyer scored 13 goals in 66 games for EC Red Bull Salzburg over the course of the season. So it takes him over five games to score a goal. However, his "big goals" rate is more than respectable, as 23% of his goals either led to the title win, a place in the finals or match pucks in the finals.
