Wins for the top-3 | VSV narrows gap to top-5

In the traditional Boxing-Day-Round the top-3-teams of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga celebrated wins. The spusu Vienna Capitals booked a clear success at Hydro Fehérvár AV19, EC Red Bull Salzburg and HC Orli Znojmo celebrated wins after a tough battle. Exciting as well was the duel of the top chasing pack. The EC Panaceo VSV clinched out a win in overtime. The HC TWK Innsbruck defeated the Dornbirn Bulldogs 6:1.

Znojmo books shootout win after comeback
The HC Orli Znojmo celebrated a comeback win in Linz and keeps in contact with the second placed Caps. The Liwest Black Wings Linz had to take the third consecutive defeat. But the Black Wings had the better start into the game. In the first eleven minutes the Black Wings built a lead of 3:0. Then it was Robert Flick one more time, who brought his team back with two goals within 100 seconds. The first of his goals was also the 100th goal Znojmo this season. In the second period the Czechs managed to tie the game, but routineer Dan DaSilva recaptured the lead. Znojmo prestend qualities in coming back one more time: Aaron Berisha brought his team in overtime. After an overtime with no goals, it was again the duo Berisha-Flick who found the decision.

Clear success for Innsbruck against Dornbirn
The HC TWK Innsbruck took revenge against the Dornbirn Bolldogs. After losing two times against Dornbirn Innsbruck celebrated a 6:1 win. It was the third win for Innsbruck in the past four games in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. The Bulldogs took the sevenths consecutive defeat. Michael Boivin opened the scoring after only 33 seconds. Lattner and Thörnberg increased to 3:0. The hosts couldn’t be stopped by an hole in the ice and created a 5:0 lead in the second, before the Bulldogs scored their first goal. Innsbruck finally booked a 6:1 win.

Salzburg wins tough battle vs. Bolzano
The EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a tough fought win against the HCB Südtirol Alperia. For the HCB Südtirol Alperia it was the third time it the past four games with zero points. Before the game Bolzano announced the signing of Dante Hannoun. After an opening period with no goals it was Bud Holloway who opened the scoring. Still in the second Stefano Giliati tied the game. Newcomer Hannoun collected his first point with an assist. In the final period Raphael Herburger found the decision. J. P. Lamoureux disarmed the final offense of Znojmo.

VSV narrows gap to top-5
The EC Panaceo VSV celebrated a win in the duel against the VSV and narrowed the gap to the top-5. The 99ers missed the chance to already book the 400th win in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. After an opening period with no goals it was Chris Collins who opened the scoring. Daniel Oberkofler had the right answer and tied the game for the 99ers still in the second. Jerry Pollastrone recreated the lead in the third period – it was his fourth goal against the 99ers this season. Graz tied immediately and created more chances. The game went in overtime, where Nico Brunner found the decision for Villach.

Caps book win at Rotter-Comeback
The spusu Vienna Capitals celebrated a clear win in their 500th road game. With that win the Caps defended the second place in the standings. Caps forward Rafael Rotter came back for the Capitals, it was his first appearance this season after an injury of his ancle. Sondre Olden opened the scoring of the night. Fehérhvár AV 19 managed to tie the game, despite of creating less chances than the Caps. Vienna hat the quick answer and Brenden Kichton recreated the lead after assist of Rotter. The Caps didn’t give the control and the lead away anymore and booked a 6:1 win. Kichton and Olden scored twice, comebacker Rotter booked two assists.
