While the reigning champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana and the Rittner Buam compete in the Continental Cup, all the other members of Alps Hockey League show up at least once on the upcoming weekend. On Saturday the leader Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan aims its first win over Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey after eleven consecutive losses. Further, the first duel of the newcomers is ahead and on Sunday the EHC Lustenau and the EK Die Zeller Eisbären have their second game scheduled on the weekend.
Sat, 19.10.2019, 6.00 pm: HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice – VEU Feldkirch

After HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice let slip away a 3:0-lead in Kitzbühel, losing 3:4 in overtime, they welcome the VEU Feldkirch, which played the last game Sunday night winning 8:2 against Linz. The Vorarlberg side hits the road after three consecutive wins, while last year’s semifinalist shows up after three losses in a row. Thus, the VEU is ranked sixth, Jesenice eleventh. Despite Feldkirch’s form curve points upwards, it struggles on PK (63% | 33/12). In past season the VEU won both duels against the Slovenian side, overall Feldkirch succeeded in three out of eight games.

The first battle of the newcomer is around the corner, as the Vienna Capitals Silver host the Steel Wings Linz. Both teams participate for the first time in Alps Hockey League and are bottom placed in standings, with each team celebrating one win so far. Vienna delivered an upset against reigning champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, Linz grabbed a shootout-win against Cortina. While Linz had to accept most goal against of all teams, the Caps struggle on PP, scoring only once out of 33 occasions being one man up.

Sat, 19.10.2019, 7.30 pm: Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan is looking for the first win against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, as the current leader of Alps Hockey League lost the past eleven battles with the former champion. In the running season the Broncos grabbed seven wins in regulation, leading the table, while Asiago gained seven points less (14) and is placed on seventh position. Besides Cortina, which only had two games in front of the home crowd, the South Tyrolean remain unbeaten in all five home games.

The EK Die Zeller Eisbären starts its road-trip at EC Bregenzerwald on Saturday and stops by at EHC Lustenau on Sunday. While the “polar bears” took four wins in the past five games, the third-last ranked “Wälder” grabbed two wins at the same time, both at home. In the Alps Hockey League history Zell am See took five wins out of eight played, grabbing the last road-win on February 14th, 2018.

The EHC Lustenau plays twice at home, facing two Austrian teams. They come of a four games losing-streak to open den double header against EC “Die Adler” Stadtwerke Kitzbühel Saturday night, winning all home-games against the Tyrolese in Alps Hockey League history. But the “eagles” arrive after a huge comeback win on Thursday, turning around a 0:3-deficit in overtime against Jesenice. Lustenau get’s the fourth chance to take a home-win, securing only one point in the home opener. Kitzbühel has the third best PP available among all teams, while Lustenau strengthened its roster, as Mark Hurtubise replaced Matt Carter.

Second placed HC Pustertal Wölfe is about to grab the sixth consecutive win, facing the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, which had bumpy first quarter of the season, succeeding only three times and lost the past three games in a row. With only thirteen goals against in nine games (1,4 GA), the vice champion has the best defensive squad available. The Juniors struggle on the PP, converting two out of 32 occasions so far (6,3%). In the first season encounter the “wolves” took at 2:5 road-win, which was the fifth win against the Austrian side overall.

The duel HC Gherdeina valgardena.it against EC-KAC II closes Saturday’s schedule. Both faces each other after a win on Thursday: Gherdeina defeated EC Bregenzerwald 6:4, Klagenfurt won 3:1 against Vienna. While the Carinthians are placed thirteenth with ten points, the South Tyrolean are ranked ninth with thirteen points. They met six times in the past AHL-seasons, with five times the home-team won the games. Which means, that Gherdeina is remaining unbeaten in home-games against EC-KAC II.
Sun, 20.10.2019, 5.30 pm: S.G. Cortina Hafro – SHC Fassa Falcons

On Sunday, S.G. Cortina Hafro hosts SHC Fassa Facons. Both teams had different results past gameday, as Cortina celebrated a 6:1 clearcut-win over Salzburg and Fassa lost to Sterzing 1:2. In standings Cortina is placed fourth, Fassa is ranked twelfth. While the home-team grabbed points in any game played this season, the “falcons” lost five times. Cortina has the second-best PK available (88%). In the past Alps Hockey League meetings of these two, Fassa only succeeded once (2:1 at home on January 6th, 2018).
