The EK Zeller Eisbären also won their fifth game in the Master Round on Saturday, with the Pinzgau team extending their lead in the table thanks to a 4:2 victory in Jesenice. In the Qualification Round groups, Hockey Club Gardena and EC Bregenzerwald qualified for the pre-playoffs, while the season is over for Red Bull Hockey Juniors and the Unterland Cavaliers.
In the second game of the Master Round, Kitzbühel and Ritten played out an open exchange of blows. The visitors took the lead after 30 minutes through top scorer Ethan Szypula, before KEC captain Henrik Hochfilzer equalised shortly afterwards. The Tyroleans turned the game in their favour in the third period, but this time the South Tyroleans managed to draw 2:2 and the game went into overtime, where Sebastian Christiansen decided the game. As a result, third-placed Kitzbühel is now just one point behind the reigning champions.
Gardena in the top 3 despite defeat
In Qualification Round A, Merano secured first place with a 4:2 derby victory over Gardena. The home side initially took the lead twice through Daniel Gellon, but the fury equalised each time. However, just twelve seconds after the 2:2, Chad Pietroniro (38') scored again for Merano. Massimo Pietroniro finally ensured the final score. Despite the defeat, Gardena qualified for the pre-playoffs.
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were beaten 3:6 at home by Sterzing in the parallel game. This defeat ended the season for the Salzburg team. The South Tyroleans, for whom Adam Capannelli scored a brace, proved to be the more efficient side that evening. Sterzing therefore finished the intermediate round in second place and awaits their opponents in the pre-play-off.
Bregenzerwald secures pre-playoff participation
The pre-playoff participants in Qualification Round B have been finalised since Saturday, but the positions between one and three are still open. The Unterland Cavaliers celebrated a clear 6:2 win - Daniels Murnieks scored a brace - in Celje, but no longer have a chance of reaching the pre-playoffs.
In the second game, EC Bregenzerwald came out on top against KHL Sisak 4:3 after overtime. Although both teams were in the lead during the game, neither side was able to pull away. Philipp Pöschmann finally scored the decisive goal in overtime. Celje, Sisak and Bregenzerwald now have ten points each in the group. The final placings will therefore be decided on Sunday, when the Vorarlberg and Croatian teams face each other again.
