On Saturday, reigning champion Zell am See celebrated a 7–4 home win over league leader Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The other top contenders, KHL Sisak and Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, picked up away victories.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 7-4 (2:2, 4:2, 1:0)
A crowd of 2,600 fans saw a high-scoring top clash at the KE KELIT Arena, where Widen put the home team ahead on a power play just three minutes in. The Juniors briefly turned the game around through Juhola and Eliseev, but Zell am See equalized before the first intermission. In the middle frame, the reigning champions pulled away to 5–2 with three goals. The score stood at 6–4 heading into the second break. In the 59th minute, Tomazevic sealed the 7–4 final with a shorthanded empty-net goal. Zell am See celebrated their fifth consecutive victory, avenging their first derby loss of the season, while the league leaders’ winning streak came to an end.
EC Bregenzerwald – KHL Sisak 1–2 SO (0:1, 1:0, 0:0)
In the first of back-to-back meetings, Sisak took the lead in the sixth minute through Larionovs. In a balanced game in front of nearly 1,000 fans, Lipsbergs equalized for the Vorarlberg side with a penalty shot in the middle period. With the score still tied 1–1 after overtime, the shootout decided it: Idzan secured the extra point for the Croatians, who remain in second place. The teams will meet again on Sunday in Dornbirn.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 1–4 (0:2, 1:1, 0:1)
The Kitzbühel Eagles continued their strong run with a 4–1 away win over the Unterland Cavaliers, extending their unbeaten streak to six games. The Tirol side came out flying, dominated the opening period, and led 2–0 thanks to goals from Loshing and Krainz. The Cavaliers responded after the break, cutting the deficit to 1–2 with a power-play goal from Potsinok. But Kitzbühel quickly struck back as Podlipnik restored the two-goal lead with a pinpoint shot. In the final frame, KEC goaltender Tom McCollum stood tall with several key saves before Maxa sealed the 4–1 victory with an empty-netter.
HC Migross Asiago – HDD Jesenice 4–5 OT (2:0, 1:2, 1:2)
As in their recent game against Cortina, Asiago let a two-goal lead slip away. The Italians went up 2–0 at home thanks to Porco and Chiodo, who both scored twice. Jesenice fought back twice but still trailed 2–4 with five minutes left. Svetina pulled one back, and Baloh tied the game just 33 seconds before the end of regulation. In overtime, Svetina struck again, securing Jesenice’s win and ending their losing streak.
Rittner Buam SkyAlps – S.G. Cortina Hafro 3–0 (1:0, 1:0, 1:0)
A fast-paced, hard-fought game unfolded at the Ritten Arena. In the first period, Felicetti put the hosts ahead 1–0 after a fine passing play involving Cuglietta and Alderson, following missed chances on both sides. Early in the second period, Fink tipped in a Madsen shot to make it 2–0. Cortina pushed hard in the final period, but goaltender Furlong preserved his shutout with several strong saves. Near the end, Cuglietta scored into the empty net to complete the 3–0 victory and Furlong’s shutout.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 2–6 (2:2, 0:3, 0:1)
Gherdeina suffered their sixth straight defeat at home against Sterzing. Conci opened the scoring for the Broncos just 76 seconds in. The home side equalized shortly after and responded again to another Broncos lead, sending the game to the break tied 2–2. Conci struck again in the 30th minute to restore Sterzing’s lead, and two power-play goals followed as the visitors pulled away. Gherdeina took further penalties in the third, and Sanvido capped the scoring on a 5-on-3 power play.
