EK Die Zeller Eisbären are back at the top of the table after their seventh win in the eighth game. This was made possible by HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, who defeated former leader Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in overtime. The direct duel for the fourth place in the table went to the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. In addition, EHC Lustenau, HC Meran/o Pircher, SHC Fassa Falcons as well as Cortina Hafro celebrated victories on Thursday evening.
Lustenau celebrates overtime win after rollercoaster game
EHC Lustenau celebrated the third win in a row. In the duel against EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, the Vorarlberg team prevailed 5:4 in overtime. The Tyroleans, on the other hand, suffered their fourth defeat in the past six games. Kitzbühel got off to the better start and made it 1-0 after just 20 seconds, but then Lustenau took control and turned the game around in the first period. Lustenau made it 4:1 in the meantime - even ex-Eagle Mikael Johansson was able to celebrate a goal against his former team. Kitzbühel fought back and Joonas Niemelä sent the Eagles into overtime in the last second of regulation time. There Max Wennlund provided the decision for Lustenau.
Jesenice wins top match in overtime
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated an overtime win in the top match and toppled the Broncos from the top of the table. The Slovenians also started the match stronger and put the score at 2-0 in the first six minutes, but the Broncos still turned the match in the first period and went into the first break with a 3-2 lead. From then on, the two teams had an open exchange of blows until overtime, when Maks Selan ensured the decision for Jesenice. While the Broncos are now in second place in the standings, Jesenice put themselves in a lurking position in third place.
Zell is back on top
After their first defeat of the season, EK Die Zeller Eisbären had no problems against EC Bregenzerwald. But Bregenzerwald initially managed to take the lead before Zell turned up the heat and turned the match around with three goals in the last two minutes of the first period. The Eisbären finally prevailed 4:1 and regained the lead in the standings.
Rittner Buam win duel for 4th place
The Rittner Buam celebrated a hard-fought victory over the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and are now in fourth place in the standings. Unterland initially took the lead twice in this game. But the Buam had the better finish and decided the encounter 3:2 in their favor. The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers are in fifth place after this defeat.
Shutout win for Cortina
S.G. Cortina Hafro celebrated a 2-0 shutout victory in the clash with Hockey Club Gherdeina. Already in the first period Cortina controlled the encounter and kept the box of Pauli Hofer under constant fire, who excelled the first two thirds. It was not until the 53rd minute that a crack managed to overcome the Gherdeina goalkeeper. Cortina finally prevailed 2-0 and climbed to eighth place in the table.
Merano stops Klagenfurt's series
While the KAC Future Team had two brilliant victories before this encounter, HC Meran/o Pircher had a negative streak behind them. In this encounter, however, the omens changed: After trailing early on, Meran finally celebrated an unchallenged 4:1 victory and was able to register again after three zeros in a row. Joseph Garreffa scored a brace.
Sovereign victory of the Falcons against Steel Wings
The SHC Fassa Falcons had no problems against the Steel Wings Linz, also because the hosts were much more efficient this evening. Especially goalie Thomas Tolstrup Lillie stood out with a total of 34 saves. Despite numerous chances, the Linzers scored only once in this encounter and eventually had to admit defeat with 1:5.
