Kitzbühel climbed to second place with a road win against EC Bregenzerwald, while Jesenice pulled off an overtime win in Salzburg. Celje edged Cortina at home, and both the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan and HC Gherdeina valgardena.it found success on the road.
The league leaders, EK Zeller Eisbären, cruised to a dominant 3-0 shutout victory in front of 1,822 fans against KHL Sisak. After a scoreless first period, the home team lit the lamp three times in the second. In the final frame, Max Zimmermann shut the door with his third shutout of the season.
Kitzbühel Climbs to Second
The Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel narrowed the gap to Zell with a 6-4 road win over EC Bregenzerwald, securing second place in the standings. The first period turned into a goal fest, ending 4-3 in favor of the visitors from Kitzbühel. Both teams added a tally in the second, with Matic Podlipnik completing his hat trick for the Tyroleans. Jayson Ren sealed the deal for Kitzbühel in the final period.
Gherdeina Wins South Tyrolean Derby
In the South Tyrolean derby, HC Gherdeina valgardena.it edged Hockey Unterland Cavaliers in a 3-2 shootout thriller. The visitors struck first in the opening period with a goal from Vili Laitinen. Patrick Cont tied it up for the hosts in the second before Stephan Deluca restored Gherdeina's lead with a converted penalty shot. The Cavaliers found the equalizer eight minutes before the buzzer. After a scoreless overtime, Deluca buried his second of the night in the shootout to secure the win.
Merano Drops to Last Place
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan handed over the league’s "red lantern" to HC Meran/o Pircher with a decisive 7-3 road win in their direct duel. In the second South Tyrolean derby of the night, Merano opened the scoring, only to see the Broncos respond with two quick goals. After an evenly matched second period, Sterzing took full control in the third, scoring four unanswered goals. James Livingston stole the show with a hat trick.
Celje Edges Cortina
HK RST Pellet Celje squeezed out a narrow 4-3 home win over S.G. Cortina Hafro. The visitors struck first through Francesco Adami early in the game, but the home team turned the tide with three straight goals. Cortina got one back in the second period before Mark Sojer netted the game-winner to make it 4-2. In the final frame, Waltteri Lehtonen brought Cortina within one with a shorthanded goal, but the visitors couldn't force overtime.
Overtime Thriller for Jesenice
SIJ Acroni Jesenice grabbed a 6-5 overtime win on the road against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the home side answered with three goals of their own. In the third period, Jesenice looked set for a regulation win, adding two more goals to take aim at third place in the standings. But Salzburg fought back, forcing overtime thanks to second goals of the night from Paul Vinzens and Adrian Gesson. In the extra frame, Gregor Koblar netted the game-winner for the Slovenians.
