Zell’s Eisbären Sweep Their Way into the Semifinals

The EK Zeller Eisbären clinched their fourth win of the series on Sunday night, becoming the second team – after the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – to punch their ticket to the AHL Semifinals. However, it was the home team from Bregenzerwald that got off to the better start: In the 6th minute, Ievgen Fadieiev put the hosts in front. But Zell wasted no time responding, tying the game just 33 seconds later. The Eisbären took full control before the first intermission, making it 3-1 by the 14th minute. Bregenzerwald fought back early in the second period, cutting the deficit to 2-3 on the powerplay. But Zell answered with two quick goals to take a commanding 5-2 lead after 40 minutes. The Regular Season Champions showed their experience and never let Bregenzerwald back into the game. In the end, Zell sealed a 7-3 victory, with seven different players getting on the scoresheet, completing the series sweep and advancing to the next round.

For EC Bregenzerwald, who had finished the Regular Season in second-to-last place but battled their way through the Qualification Round and Pre-Playoffs to reach the Quarterfinals, the season has come to an end.
