Znojmo secures the last ticket for the playoff
HC Orli Znojmo has completed the field for the quarter-finals in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League. The Czechs celebrated a 5:3 victory at home against the Dornbirn Bulldogs, confirming their third place in the qualifying round. It was already the eighth play-off qualification for Miroslav Frycer's team. The Czech "eagles" showed nerves of steel: Maximilian Egger (11th) put the visitors in the lead with his first league goal - Znojmo responded with three goals en suite. Dornbirn was again on the move, equalising within three minutes before the "Adler" finally secured the play-off spot with a shorthander from David Bartos (35) and Vladimir Oscadal (36) with a home win. For the team from Vorarlberge the season ends in last place for the second time in a row.
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 managed to overtake HC TWK Innsbruck "Die Haie" in the last round of the Regular Season. A hat-trick from Scott Timmins secured a 6-5 away win after overtime at the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz, which saved the Hungarians, who were already trailing 2-0 after just seven minutes, a 6-5 away win with David Kickert and Jeff Glass. Innsbruck finishes the qualification round on the penultimate place. The Tyroleans - they should at least have scored for the play-off qualification - lost 3:6 at EC Panaceo VSV, while the Carinthians, who thus secured their victory in the Qualification Round, were the ones who made the preliminary decision with three goals in the first two sections: Anton Karlsson (15.), Alexander Lahoda (24.) and Christof Wappis (37.) were the goal scorers of the Carinthians in the first two thirds.
Vienna finishes Pick Round in third place
The spusu Vienna Capitals won the direct duel for third place - and thus captured the third picking right - against the EC-KAC. In front of 6,500 spectators, the "Caps" won in a racy game with 2:1 after overtime. The guests from Carinthia were much more active, almost superior in the first section - but did not score. Lukas Haudum then scored in the 31st minute when he deflected a concealed flutter shot from Michael Kernberger unstoppably against the always sovereign looking Bernhard Starkbaum (23 saves). The Viennese responded immediately: Kyle Baun scored only 25 seconds later to equalize. Then both teams had their chances. The KAC weakened towards the end with penalties, which the Capitals then used to win the overtime by a goal from Taylor Vause.
In the parallel game of the Pick Round, EC Red Bull Salzburg warmed up with a 4:2 home win against Moser Medical Graz99ers for the postseason of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga starting on Wednesday. Alexander Rauchenwald made his comeback for the runner-up after winning the fight against cancer. The "Red Bulls" made the decision in the first 14 minutes: Two times Layne Viveiros (2. and 14.), Dominique Heinrich (7.) and Chad Kolarik (13.) overcame Thomas Höneckel in the goal of the Graz team, who spared a number of players in the last - and for both teams meaningless - game of the basic round and only arrived with three lines. Philipp Lindner and Ken Ograjensek then scored for the visitors in the last section, but they did not come any closer.
